This looks so good! I need to keep my eye out for tomatillos in Australia. Also, we don’t get the same range of fresh chillies that you do (very sad) but I’m sure I can make something work with what we have available.
you would love this salsa, it goes with everything. I put it on eggs, as topping for bean soup, everything. Some of the chiles I mentioned I cant grow them in the US so I have to buy them dried. And i have to got to a specific Mexican market because regular stores don’t carry them. But you can use which ever chile you like the most. Sometimes I get playful and use thai chile.
We have a Mexican mart nearby that sells a lot of dried chillies! The tomatillos I’ve only seen canned, but I never know what I can get my hands on at the markets in the summer
I have never tried canned tomatillos but I’m guessing it can’t be that bad, I use canned roma tomatoes sometimes or canned tomatoe paste. I do hope you find some at the market though.
Great explanation between authentic Mexican dishes and sides vs American corporate items like Cha poodle or Taco smell. That's my main reason for tuning in to your posts or videos when you guys make them (pleasant voice you have).
Not to interfear, but In the article you mentioned a boyfriend moving in from Oklahoma and then a husband. That must be difficult around the holidays. I only have one GF so my hands are full. If I had a wife and GF I'd make sure they got along but a smart man wouldn't let them met in the first place...
But I digress... For me I've never heard of a Tomatillo but it looks like a small tomato. I'm going to ask my Mexican produce guy about them here in my village. Mexican food and the different aspects of culture there by state are of interest.
If I ever get a chance to make this I'd go for the extra time and char or grill those ingredients you listed as the smoke flavor would be amazing.
good point I did not noticed, same guy. We moved in together before we got married. Grilling them is definitely a game changer. its easier when the weather is not so hot. I hope you like it, its a delicious salsa: bright, tangy, and tart.
I wish we could get tomatillos here in DK as your recipe looks so tasty Lily. At best we can find them in a can or have to buy seeds to grow them ourselves. Maybe next year...
omg i need to try this, you are a parks and recreations fan?! i love that show.
yes, i love that show. i hope you like the recipe
